Gray's Bushmills formerly The Smugglers Inn

In 2023 the Smugglers Inn was purchased by Black Rock Hotels and renamed Gray's Bushmills in memory of Ellen “Nellie” Gray, the current proprietor’s grandmother. Gray's Bushmills aims to maintain the charm and character of the original inn and combine this with an excellent fine dining experience.

Nellie Gray

Gray’s is named after Ellen “Nellie” Gray, the current proprietor’s (Adrian Fullan) grandmother. Nellie was born in 1901 near Maghereagh outside Randalstown, was married in 1930, and had her Honeymoon in the East Antrim town of Larne. But it was the causeway coast which became one of the great loves of Nellie’s life, and she returned regularly to Portstewart, Portrush, and Bushmills to enjoy the scenery, the food, and the warmth of local people, in one of the most beautiful coastlines on the island of Ireland. Gray’s is a tribute to Nellie’s abiding love for the Causeway Coast.
